The Law of Sovereign Illcara
Jan, 279 Illcara, 609 ER
Let it be known that throughout the lands held by the nation of Illcara the Princes’ word is law, and presented here verbatim. Judgement and sentencing by a Noble or their designee (be it Magistrate, Seneschal, or Warden) need not include a trial, nor even the presence of the accused. If trial is granted, it is responsibility only of the accused to gather any that will speak for them. If a punishment includes death, it is the presiding Noble’s decision how best to carry out the execution, so long as the criminal’s spirit is lost from body. Outlaws are considered to have no legal standing and may be slain on sight. Known criminals who refuse to desist shall have additional outlawry added to their sentence. If a Count or his Lieges wish to increase or decrease the pronounced sentence, their word is law. Only a Liege-Lord may try a Knight, as may only a Liege-Lord try a Noble. The Word of your Nobility is law.
In the event a criminal cannot pay a fine within one month’s time, the criminal’s possessions and assets will be seized and the criminal will serve in a prison or as a man-at-arms for time according to the original fine.
Visitors and Diplomats are afforded the rights of a Citizen until taxes are due for citizenship, as are all sentient peaceful creatures.
Illcara is an ally of the Concordance of Avalon.
Let it be known, with no exception, that the following are offenses against Illcara:
